Banking programmes are constrained by three things: the core cannot be replaced in one move, the regulator has an opinion about every change, and the service cannot go down. These are the workstreams that normally move first, in the order they usually move.

In practice that means four workstreams: modernising the applications that run operations, moving infrastructure to cloud, unifying data so reporting comes from one source, and automating the processes that currently depend on spreadsheets and email. The word covers a lot, which is why the first deliverable should always be a scope everyone can point at.

Cost is driven by how many systems are in scope, how much integration sits between them, how much migration and cutover work the change requires, and whether the programme runs one workstream or several in parallel. An assessment and roadmap is the smallest engagement, a single delivered workstream such as modernising one core application sits above it, and a multi-workstream programme with a dedicated architect is the largest. Every engagement is scoped fixed-price or capped time-and-materials after the assessment, so the number is agreed before delivery begins.

A current-state map of your applications, integrations and data flows; a target architecture; a sequenced roadmap with dependencies and costs per phase; and the business case that justifies each phase on its own. The deliverable is a plan an engineering team can start executing on Monday, not a slide deck. The usual failure mode of consulting-only engagements is a roadmap nobody can execute, so Codazz keeps the architects who write it on the team that builds it.

IT modernization replaces a system incrementally while it keeps running. An API facade goes in front of the legacy application, then capabilities move behind it one at a time using the strangler pattern, with old and new running in parallel and reconciled until each slice is proven. A full rewrite freezes the old system, builds a replacement for a year or more, and switches over in one event. The incremental route lets you stop, reverse or reprioritise at any slice boundary, which is why we prefer it on anything the business actually runs on.

Almost never with the core ledger. Banking programmes usually start at the edges: digital onboarding and account opening, payments modernisation toward ISO 20022, KYC and AML workflow automation, and an API layer that exposes core functions to new channels without changing the core itself. Regulatory reporting data is normally the second wave, because it depends on the integration layer the first wave puts in.

Usually in visibility rather than automation. Getting machine and line telemetry off the shop floor and into a system where OEE, downtime cause and scrap rate are visible in near real time typically pays back before any control system changes. From there the common sequence is MES and ERP integration, traceability and genealogy for quality and recall, predictive maintenance on the assets that actually cause downtime, and supply chain visibility across suppliers.

Technology consulting services cover the decisions made before code is written: which systems to keep, replace or wrap; which cloud and data platform to standardise on; how to sequence delivery so each phase funds the next; and what the integration architecture looks like. Getting that wrong is expensive in a way that a bad sprint is not, because every later workstream inherits the decision.

The assessment and roadmap take four to six weeks. A single workstream reaches production in three to six months. Multi-workstream programmes run twelve to twenty-four months, but they are sequenced so a usable capability lands each quarter rather than at the end. If a proposal has one go-live date eighteen months out, the entire risk sits with you.
