Service Overview

ERP Development Solutions for Seattle Businesses

ERP in Washington State has a tax problem that ERP nowhere else in America has. Washington levies no corporate income tax and no personal income tax. It funds itself instead through the Business and Occupation tax, a gross receipts tax with more than fifty classifications where a business cannot deduct labour, materials, taxes or any other cost of doing business, and where a company performing several activities owes under several classifications at once. Layer on separate municipal B&O regimes in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma and Everett with their own apportionment rules, the Seattle payroll expense tax that has applied since January 1 2021 with CPI-indexed thresholds and rate tiers that vary by both company payroll size and individual employee compensation band, destination-based retail sales tax sourcing that codes every sale to a local jurisdiction, and SB 5814, signed May 20 2025 as Chapter 422, Laws of 2025, which extended retail sales tax to a list of previously untaxed services. A stock ERP tax module does not model any of this correctly out of the box. Meanwhile the operational side of Puget Sound is heavy industry: Boeing's Everett and Renton production system and its supplier base, Blue Origin in Kent, SpaceX in Redmond, PACCAR in Bellevue building Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks, Weyerhaeuser, the Northwest Seaport Alliance moving containers through Seattle and Tacoma, Costco's distribution network out of Issaquah, and Amazon's fulfilment operations. Those companies are named to describe the region's industrial base, not as Codazz clients. Codazz builds and extends ERP for buyers of that shape on SAP S/4HANA, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Infor CloudSuite, Epicor Kinetic and Acumatica, whose global headquarters sits in Bellevue. We deliver on Pacific Time from Edmonton, one hour ahead on Mountain Time, with Chandigarh covering data loads and regression runs through the Seattle night. Founded in 2018, 500 plus projects delivered, 200 plus engineers, and no Seattle office: we say so up front.

What We Build

ERP Development Services We Offer in Seattle

Our Seattle ERP work divides into four services that share a platform and almost nothing else. Financial core implementation and extension covers general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, revenue recognition and consolidation, with the Washington B&O engine built as a proper module: activity classification per revenue line, multi-classification allocation, city apportionment for Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma and Everett, and reporting that reconciles to the Department of Revenue excise tax return rather than approximating it. Manufacturing and supply chain covers bills of material, routings, shop floor execution, quality management to AS9100 where aerospace applies, and demand planning against a supplier base that runs long lead times. Human capital and payroll covers the Seattle payroll expense tax tiering, Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave, WA Cares Fund deductions, and job posting compensation ranges under the Equal Pay and Opportunities Act. Integration and data covers the middleware between ERP, warehouse management, transportation management, CRM and the warehouse, plus the migration and reconciliation work that decides whether a go-live is boring or memorable for the wrong reasons.

Industry Expertise

ERP Development for Seattle's Key Industries

Aerospace and defence manufacturing is the largest ERP vertical in Puget Sound. Boeing's Everett and Renton operations, Blue Origin in Kent, SpaceX in Redmond and hundreds of tier two and tier three suppliers need ERP that carries export control classification on the item master, enforces nationality-based access to technical data, produces AS9100 quality records, and maintains serialised traceability back through the bill of material. Trucking and heavy equipment, led by PACCAR in Bellevue with its Kenworth and Peterbilt lines, needs configure-to-order product structures and dealer parts distribution. Retail and distribution, including Costco out of Issaquah, Nordstrom and REI Co-op, needs merchandise planning, allocation and replenishment tied into destination-sourced sales tax on every order line. Forest products and industrials, including Weyerhaeuser, need yield-based costing that standard discrete manufacturing modules handle badly. Maritime and logistics operators moving freight through the Northwest Seaport Alliance terminals need customs, drayage and demurrage data flowing into cost accounting. Health systems including Providence and MultiCare need supply chain and revenue cycle integration inside HIPAA and Washington's Uniform Health Care Information Act at RCW 70.02.

Our Process

Our ERP Development Development Process

ERP failure is almost never a technology failure, so our process front-loads the things that actually sink projects. Discovery produces a written process inventory before any configuration decision, including a line-by-line revenue classification map for B&O purposes, a chart of accounts assessment, an interface catalogue with owners, and an honest count of the spreadsheets currently holding the business together. We insist on a data quality assessment in week one, because vendor masters, item masters and open balances are where timelines die. Design runs as conference room pilots against real company data, not demo data, with finance, operations and the controller in the room on Pacific Time. Those pilots are booked against the controller's real calendar rather than around it, because a pilot signed off by a project manager instead of the person who actually closes the books is the most reliable predictor of a go-live that unravels in month one. Build proceeds in two-week sprints with a permanently running integration environment. Cutover is rehearsed at least three times end to end, including the mock close, before anyone signs off. We plan for parallel running through one full month-end close and one quarter-end close, and we do not compress that to make a date.

Technology

Technologies We Use for ERP Development

Platform choice in Seattle follows company shape rather than fashion. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations and Business Central are unusually strong in this market because the local partner channel and the Microsoft skill base make them the default enterprise answer, and because Power BI, Dataverse and Entra ID are already deployed. SAP S/4HANA, delivered through RISE or on Azure infrastructure, fits large discrete manufacturers and the aerospace supply chain. Oracle NetSuite fits fast-growing distribution and services businesses. Infor CloudSuite Aerospace and Defense and Epicor Kinetic fit specialised manufacturers. Acumatica, headquartered in Bellevue, fits mid-market operations that want a consumption-based licence and a genuinely extensible xRP platform. Tax calculation typically runs through Avalara, which keeps a Seattle office, or Vertex, with the Washington B&O logic built as custom code because no packaged engine models it fully. With cloud ERP the vendor largely dictates its own hosting region, so the decision we actually own is where the integration and reporting layer sits, which for plant-floor systems still running on-premises usually means Azure West US 2, physically in Washington State. Integration runs on Azure Integration Services, MuleSoft, Boomi or custom Kafka pipelines, with reporting into Power BI, Snowflake or Databricks.

Why Choose Us

Why Seattle Businesses Choose Codazz for ERP Development

We combine world-class engineering with local market understanding to deliver erp development solutions that drive real business outcomes.

🧾

A Real B&O Engine

Washington's gross receipts tax allows no deduction for labour, materials or other costs and spans more than fifty classifications. We build line-level classification, multiple activities credit handling, and Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma and Everett municipal apportionment that reconciles to the excise tax return rather than approximating it.

✈️

Export Control On The Item Master

Boeing, Blue Origin and SpaceX suppliers get ITAR and EAR classification carried on the item master and technical data, nationality-aware access gates on drawings and routings, restricted party screening before shipment release, and full access logging. Controlled unclassified information sits in a separated enclave, not the main tenant.

💼

Seattle Payroll Tax Tiering

The Seattle payroll expense tax has applied since January 1 2021 with CPI-indexed thresholds and rates that vary by company payroll band and by each employee's compensation band. We build the quarterly bucketing properly, alongside Paid Family and Medical Leave, WA Cares and pay range disclosure.

🎯

Cutover Rehearsed Three Times

Data profiling in week one, a written cleanup plan with named owners, a runbook timed to the minute, and at least three full end-to-end cutover rehearsals including a mock close. Parallel running spans one month-end and one quarter-end before the legacy system is switched off.

📍

Local Expertise

Our team understands the regulatory landscape, business culture, and user expectations specific to your city. We combine global engineering standards with hyper-local market knowledge to build products that resonate with your target audience from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions About ERP Development in Seattle

Have a question not listed here? Reach out to our team and we will get back to you within 4 hours.

Ask a Question

We quote ranges first and then a fixed fee against a signed statement of work, because ERP scope moves more than any other category. A single-entity implementation on Acumatica, NetSuite or Dynamics 365 Business Central covering finance, purchasing, inventory and two or three integrations typically runs USD 120,000 to 350,000 over four to eight months. A mid-market multi-entity implementation on Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations or NetSuite OneWorld with manufacturing or distribution modules, a custom Washington B&O engine, payroll integration and a reconciled historical data migration typically runs USD 350,000 to 1,200,000 over nine to eighteen months. A large SAP S/4HANA or Infor CloudSuite programme across several plants and legal entities with export control, quality and warehouse management in scope runs USD 1,200,000 to 5,000,000 and up over two years or more. Software licences and cloud subscriptions sit with your vendor and are not in those figures. The bigger cost variable on an ERP programme is not the rate card at all. It is how quickly your side can clean vendor and item master data and close open configuration decisions. Every week a decision sits unmade is a week of paid team capacity, and that single factor moves ERP budgets further than any hourly figure either of us negotiates. This is why we put data profiling in week one and attach named customer-side owners to every cleanup item.

As a first-class module, because no packaged ERP tax engine models it properly. The Business and Occupation tax is a gross receipts tax: as the Department of Revenue states, businesses cannot deduct expenses such as labour, materials, taxes or other costs of doing business, and there are more than fifty classifications, with a business conducting multiple activities owing under more than one. That means the ERP has to classify revenue at the transaction line rather than the customer or the company. We build a classification engine that assigns a B&O category per revenue line from the item, service code and contract type, applies the correct rate, handles the multiple activities tax credit, and produces a report that reconciles line for line to the excise tax return filed through MyDOR. On top of that sit separate municipal B&O regimes in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma and Everett with their own apportionment formulas, which we model as an additional allocation layer keyed to where the work was performed and where the customer received the benefit. We also account for SB 5814, signed May 20 2025 as Chapter 422, Laws of 2025, which extended retail sales tax to a set of previously untaxed services and changed the classification of some revenue that used to be service-only.

Four things break naive payroll configurations here. First, the Seattle payroll expense tax, effective January 1 2021 and filed quarterly, which applies to employers above a Seattle payroll threshold that indexes annually to CPI and only counts compensation above a per-employee threshold that also indexes. Its rates are tiered by both total company payroll band and individual employee compensation band, so payroll has to bucket each employee's Seattle-sourced compensation into the right tier every quarter rather than applying a flat rate. Second, Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave, an employee and employer premium reported to the Employment Security Department with its own wage base and quarterly reporting file. Third, the WA Cares Fund long-term care premium, an employee-side deduction with exemption handling that has to be honoured retroactively when an exemption is approved mid-year. Fourth, the Equal Pay and Opportunities Act amendment in SB 5761, signed March 30 2022 as Chapter 242, Laws of 2022 and effective January 1 2023, which requires wage scale or salary range disclosure in job postings, so the compensation band data has to live in the HR module and flow to the applicant tracking system rather than sitting in a recruiter's spreadsheet.

Yes, and in Puget Sound it is usually the first requirement rather than a late addition. For suppliers into Boeing, Blue Origin, SpaceX and the wider defence base, the ERP has to carry an export control classification on the item master and on technical data attachments, covering ITAR and the Commerce Control List under EAR. Access to controlled technical data is gated by person, not just by role, which means the ERP identity layer needs to hold nationality and licence eligibility attributes and enforce them at the document, drawing and routing level. Purchase orders and shipping documents need destination and end-use screening against restricted party lists before release. Every access to a controlled record is logged, because the audit question is who saw what and when. On the cybersecurity side, defence contract work brings NIST SP 800-171 controls and CMMC assessment obligations into scope for the systems that store or process controlled unclassified information, which usually means a separated enclave rather than a general-purpose ERP tenant. For workloads that must sit in a government cloud we deploy to AWS GovCloud (US-West) or Azure Government rather than commercial regions.

We implement and extend packaged ERP for the financial and operational core, and we build custom only for the parts that are genuinely specific to your business. Building a general ledger from scratch in 2026 is a bad use of money. Building a Washington B&O classification engine, a configure-to-order product configurator for a truck dealer network, a yield-based costing model for forest products, or an export-controlled document access layer is often unavoidable because no vendor ships it. The dividing line we use is whether the process is a competitive differentiator or a commodity. Commodity processes go into the package as delivered, and we push back hard on customisations that exist only because that is how the old system worked. Differentiating processes get built as extensions on the platform's supported extensibility model, which means AL extensions in Business Central, X++ extensions and Power Platform in Finance and Operations, SuiteScript in NetSuite, ABAP on the S/4HANA extensibility framework or side-by-side services on Azure, and the xRP platform in Acumatica. Custom code that sits outside the supported extension model is how companies end up unable to take an upgrade, and we will not build it that way.

A single-entity mid-market implementation runs four to eight months, a multi-entity programme with manufacturing runs nine to eighteen months, and a large multi-plant SAP or Infor programme runs two years or more. Those numbers assume the customer can supply decision-makers, not just observers. Bad go-lives share a small number of causes: data that was never profiled, a cutover that was never fully rehearsed, a scope that grew because nobody would say no, and a business that never actually trained. We attack all four. Data profiling happens in week one and drives a written cleanup plan with named owners on the customer side. Cutover is rehearsed at least three times end to end including a mock month-end close, with the runbook timed to the minute. Scope changes go through a written change request with a cost and a date, every time. Training runs on the configured system with real company data, not a demo tenant. We plan parallel running through one full month-end and one quarter-end close before the legacy system is retired, and our Chandigarh team runs verification through the Seattle night during cutover weekend while Edmonton is on call for the Pacific morning.
