Modules that monkey-patch core, write raw SQL against core tables or override methods wholesale break on every version. Yes — Odoo 13, 14, 15 and 16 to current are all routine. Custom modules are refactored against the new API, deprecated calls replaced, and data migrated and verified in staging before cutover.
