Alberta does not yet have a dedicated AWS, Azure, or GCP region, so primary workloads run in AWS ca-central-1 (Montreal), Azure Canada Central (Toronto), or GCP northamerica-northeast1 (Montreal), with private link back to Calgary and onward via dedicated circuits to oil sands facilities. Terraform is the default for infrastructure-as-code with Sentinel or OPA policy enforcement; CloudFormation only when a client estate is already committed. Kubernetes ships as EKS, AKS, or GKE for new build, or as RKE2 and OpenShift inside the perimeter when air-gapped operations demand it. CI/CD runs on GitHub Actions or self-hosted GitLab Ultimate, with GitLab heavily preferred inside energy operators that need on-premises runners and offline package mirrors. Observability stitches Datadog, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, and PI System historians together, because Splunk is already the de facto SIEM in most Calgary operations centres and PI System is non-negotiable on the plant floor. Secrets live in HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, or Azure Key Vault with hardware-backed roots from Entrust nShield where critical infrastructure classifications apply.
