Cloud & DevOps Services We Offer in Chicago
Chicago cloud and DevOps demand is shaped by three pressures most US metros do not face at the same intensity: BIPA enforcement (statutory damages of $1,000 to $5,000 per violation, with no requirement to prove harm — producing settlements at Facebook, TikTok, Google, and dozens of mid-market employers), trading-firm latency requirements (Citadel and Jump pay engineers in the high-six-figures to shave microseconds off CME round-trips), and a deep public sector with Cook County, the City of Chicago, and Illinois Tollway running modernisation programs against legacy mainframe and AS/400 cores. Our services map directly. We design AWS us-east-2 Ohio primary + us-east-1 Virginia DR for latency-sensitive Chicago workloads, build Azure North Central US-resident landing zones for Illinois state and local government clients (the only major hyperscaler region physically in Illinois), wire BIPA notice-and-consent capture into authentication and onboarding pipelines, and deliver Equinix CH4 cross-connect architectures for trading-adjacent clients that need cloud-plus-colocation hybrid. Every engagement ships a residency map, a BIPA control matrix, and a latency budget document in USD-denominated FinOps terms.
Our Cloud & DevOps Development Process
We run discovery, design, build, and operate in CST and CDT hours with Chandigarh after-hours coverage and Edmonton overflow. Discovery opens with a BIPA exposure assessment (any face, voice, fingerprint, retina, or hand-geometry scan in any user flow triggers BIPA — including remote employee fingerprint timeclocks, voice authentication, video interview AI, and customer biometric login), a SEC and CFTC operational risk review if the client is a registered trading firm, and an FFIEC review if a federally-regulated bank. Architecture review produces a latency budget for trading-adjacent workloads (microsecond-level for HFT, sub-100ms for institutional trading, sub-second for retail brokerage), a BIPA notice-and-consent flow design where biometric data is in scope, and an Azure North Central US Chicago-local deployment design where Illinois state or local government residency is required. Build sprints are two weeks, reviewed against an FFIEC or SEC-aligned change management template. Operate phase delivers 24x7 on-call with CST-anchored escalation, plus quarterly BIPA control audits and annual SEC or FFIEC examination prep where relevant.
Infrastructure Assessment
1-2 WeeksWe audit your current infrastructure, identify bottlenecks, evaluate cloud readiness, and design a target architecture with cost projections.
Architecture Design
1-2 WeeksDesign the cloud architecture following AWS Well-Architected Framework principles with networking, security, and high-availability configurations.
Implementation & Migration
4-8 WeeksProvision infrastructure with IaC, set up CI/CD pipelines, containerize applications, and execute the migration with rollback strategies.
Testing & Validation
1-2 WeeksLoad testing, failover testing, security scanning, and performance benchmarking to validate the new infrastructure meets all requirements.
Monitoring & Handoff
1 WeekSet up comprehensive monitoring with alerting, create runbooks for common operations, and train your team on managing the new infrastructure.
Technologies We Use for Cloud & DevOps
Chicago workloads have non-obvious region choices. AWS us-east-1 Virginia is 1200km from Chicago (round-trip latency ~28-35ms), while us-east-2 Ohio is 480km (round-trip ~12-18ms) — so we default trading-adjacent and latency-sensitive workloads to us-east-2 Ohio with us-east-1 as DR, the inverse of what east-coast-default consultancies recommend. Azure North Central US is physically in the Chicago metro area and is the only hyperscaler region inside Illinois — we use it for Illinois state and local government workloads where residency matters and for enterprise clients (Allstate, Discover) that historically standardised on Microsoft. GCP us-central1 Iowa is 400km from Chicago with comparable latency to us-east-2 Ohio for many use cases. Infrastructure-as-code uses Terraform with AWS, Azure, and Cloudflare providers, plus Pulumi where strongly-typed code suits the team. Kubernetes is EKS, AKS, or self-managed on EC2 for trading-adjacent workloads where the kernel and NIC tuning matters. CI/CD is GitHub Actions or GitLab Self-Managed. Observability combines Datadog, Splunk (heavy Chicago install base), and Dynatrace for the legacy-modernisation work Cook County and Illinois Tollway drive.
