Product Design Services We Offer in Chicago
Chicago design buyers expect IIT Institute of Design-trained design thinking, Leo Burnett-grade brand systems, Sprout Social-grade product UI, and McDonald's-grade operational design discipline. We deliver UX research with Chicago user panels through UserTesting, dscout (Chicago HQ, mobile-first qualitative research), and Maze, product strategy and information architecture, design systems built on Figma with Tokens Studio and Storybook for engineering handoff, interaction design and prototyping, brand identity systems, and BIPA-aware design for any feature that touches facial recognition, voice prints, fingerprint, or other biometric identifiers. Every engagement ships with a BIPA risk review, a Section 508 plus WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility review for any product touching Illinois public sector or healthcare clients, and a design system governance plan that engineering, product, and marketing can actually maintain.
Our Product Design Development Process
We open with a discovery sprint that interviews users, sales, customer success, and engineering, audits existing design assets and Figma libraries, and produces a design vision and design principles document mapped to the client's business goals. Week 2 to 5 is research and synthesis, including user interviews recruited through dscout or local Chicago user panels, competitive teardown including direct competitors and adjacent category leaders, jobs-to-be-done analysis, and information architecture work. Week 6 to 10 is iterative design with weekly reviews against the design vision, prototyping in Figma, and usability testing on Maze or UserTesting. Week 11 onward is engineering handoff with Tokens Studio for design tokens, Storybook for component documentation, and a design QA process integrated into the engineering sprint cadence. BIPA review is integrated at concept stage, not bolted on at launch.
Research & Discovery
1-2 WeeksWe conduct stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, user surveys, and analytics review to understand your users' needs, pain points, and goals.
Information Architecture
1-2 WeeksWe define the content structure, navigation patterns, and user flows that form the backbone of an intuitive user experience.
Wireframing & Prototyping
2-3 WeeksCreate low and mid-fidelity wireframes for key screens, then build interactive prototypes for stakeholder review and usability testing.
Visual Design
3-4 WeeksApply visual styling, micro-interactions, and animations to create polished, high-fidelity designs that reflect your brand and delight users.
Design Handoff
1 WeekWe prepare developer-ready assets with detailed specifications, export all design tokens, and support your engineering team during implementation.
Technologies We Use for Product Design
Our default Chicago design stack is Figma as the source of truth with Figma Dev Mode, Tokens Studio for design tokens, FigJam for collaborative ideation, and Variables for theming. Storybook handles component documentation with Chromatic for visual regression testing. For research we use dscout (Chicago HQ, mobile diary studies), UserTesting, Maze for unmoderated testing, and Lyssna (formerly UsabilityHub) for quick preference tests. Prototyping for high-fidelity flows runs in Figma or ProtoPie for advanced micro-interactions. Design system governance runs through Specify or Supernova for token distribution to web, iOS, and Android. Accessibility is validated continuously through axe DevTools, Stark for Figma, and Deque axe Auditor for enterprise audits. For any biometric feature we add a BIPA review gate and consult Illinois privacy counsel before user-facing implementation.
