Cloud & DevOps Services We Offer in Victoria
Victoria's cloud demand splits into provincial government, defence and naval contractors, ocean science, and a startup cluster that grew from VIATEC and Reliable Controls roots. Our DevOps practice covers all four. Landing zones run in AWS ca-central-1 and ca-west-1 for Canadian data residency, Azure Canada Central with Canada West for active-active, GCP northamerica-northeast1 and northamerica-northeast2 with optional northamerica-west1 (Vancouver) for low-latency cross-strait access. Kubernetes platforms run on EKS, AKS, and GKE with OPA Gatekeeper, Kyverno, or Pod Security Standards configured for BC PIPA and BC FIPPA workloads. IaC is Terraform and OpenTofu with state in S3 plus DynamoDB locks. CI/CD on GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or Harness includes SAST, SCA, IaC scanning, and DAST aligned with the BC OCIO Information Security Policy. For Maritime Forces Pacific and CFB Esquimalt-adjacent contractors we add Protected B controls aligned with ITSG-33, Treasury Board ITSG-22, and the Communications Security Establishment Top Secret Cloud Reference Architecture. Observability ships with Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, or self-hosted Prometheus plus Loki, with OpenTelemetry instrumentation.
Our Cloud & DevOps Development Process
Discovery opens with a BC residency and classification workshop. We map data to BC PIPA (private sector), BC FIPPA (public sector with Schedule 1, 2, and 3 institutions), PIPEDA where federal jurisdiction applies, and the Treasury Board ITSG-33 control profile if the workload sits under federal defence or science procurement. The 2021 BC FIPPA amendments allow disclosure outside Canada under controlled conditions, but BC public bodies still expect Canadian residency unless there is a documented business case, and we produce that case as part of the BC OIPC privacy impact assessment. Build sprints run two weeks on Pacific time from our Edmonton hub (one hour east), with synchronous standups at 09:00 PST. Deployments use blue-green or canary patterns via Argo Rollouts or Flagger, gated by SLO checks. Each release ships with a runbook, a BC PIPA or FIPPA-aligned change record, and where defence-related, the documented evidence trail for ITSG-33 control implementation and the CSE-supervised assessment. Exit criteria include a tested DR exercise that respects BC ministry continuity of operations requirements.
Infrastructure Assessment
1-2 WeeksWe audit your current infrastructure, identify bottlenecks, evaluate cloud readiness, and design a target architecture with cost projections.
Architecture Design
1-2 WeeksDesign the cloud architecture following AWS Well-Architected Framework principles with networking, security, and high-availability configurations.
Implementation & Migration
4-8 WeeksProvision infrastructure with IaC, set up CI/CD pipelines, containerize applications, and execute the migration with rollback strategies.
Testing & Validation
1-2 WeeksLoad testing, failover testing, security scanning, and performance benchmarking to validate the new infrastructure meets all requirements.
Monitoring & Handoff
1 WeekSet up comprehensive monitoring with alerting, create runbooks for common operations, and train your team on managing the new infrastructure.
Technologies We Use for Cloud & DevOps
Default regions for Victoria workloads are AWS ca-central-1 (Montreal), ca-west-1 (Calgary, launched 2024 with lower-latency western Canada access), and us-west-2 (Oregon) for non-Canadian-residency workloads that need sub-two-millisecond latency from Vancouver Island. Azure pairs Canada Central (Toronto) and Canada West (Quebec City) for active-active Canadian residency, or West US 2 (Quincy) for trans-border low latency where PIA approves. GCP runs northamerica-northeast1 (Montreal), northamerica-northeast2 (Toronto), and northamerica-west1 (Vancouver) when same-province preference applies. Container platforms run on EKS, AKS, or GKE with Karpenter or Cluster Autoscaler. IaC is Terraform Cloud with state in Canadian S3 or OpenTofu where licensing matters. Secrets sit in AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault, or HashiCorp Vault. CI/CD uses GitHub Actions self-hosted runners (sometimes air-gapped for Protected B), Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or Harness. For defence-adjacent contractors we use AWS Secret Region or Azure Government where the workload classification justifies it. Observability is Datadog, Grafana Cloud, New Relic, or self-hosted Prometheus plus Loki.
