Service Overview

ERP Development Solutions for Edmonton Businesses

ERP failure in the Edmonton region is measured in unshipped modules, unclosed months and missed regulatory filings, not in dashboard complaints. This is a heavy industry economy with a services layer on top. Alberta's Industrial Heartland spans 582 square kilometres across Fort Saskatchewan, Strathcona County, Sturgeon County, Lamont County and the Edmonton Energy and Technology Park, and it is the largest industrial area in Western Canada with more than 40 petrochemical and processing companies, including Imperial Oil's Strathcona Refinery, Suncor's Edmonton Refinery and the Scotford complex. Refinery Row sits in Strathcona County. Nisku and Acheson hold the oilfield service, fabrication and modular construction shops that feed everything north. Port Alberta and Edmonton International Airport make the region a distribution point for the whole northern corridor, which is why Edmonton is called the Gateway to the North. Stantec, a professional services firm of roughly 30,000 people listed on the TSX and NYSE, and PCL Construction, fully employee-owned and headquartered in Edmonton with its United States head office in Denver, both run project accounting problems that no standard ERP module handles. Aurora Cannabis is head-officed here and licensed federally under the Cannabis Act, though the 800,000 square foot Aurora Sky greenhouse at Edmonton International Airport was sold to Bevo Agtech in 2022. Capital Power runs generation assets across Canada and the United States from an Edmonton head office. Those companies describe the corridor. None is presented as a Codazz client. Codazz implements, extends and integrates ERP for manufacturers, distributors, contractors and project-based firms of that profile, with the Canadian and Alberta layer designed in from the start: no provincial sales tax in Alberta but a full interprovincial tax matrix the moment you ship out, TIER emissions reporting, CBSA import obligations, and IFRS or ASPE depending on who reads your statements. We work from our Edmonton head office in your time zone, with a Chandigarh team covering the overnight window.

What We Build

ERP Development Services We Offer in Edmonton

ERP work here divides into four jobs and conflating them is how programs run over. Implementation and re-implementation means standing up SAP S/4HANA, Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations or Business Central, NetSuite, Acumatica or Epicor with the process design done before configuration and the master data cleaned rather than migrated dirty. Extension means building what the package does not have, which in this region usually means lot and heat genealogy for fabricated steel, batch traceability for food and cannabis, TIER emissions data collection, field ticketing for service crews, and rental asset management for the Nisku equipment fleet. Integration means connecting ERP to the systems that hold the truth: plant historians, laboratory information systems, weigh scales, maintenance and asset management, estimating and project controls, and the payroll and certification records that decide who is allowed on site. Rescue means taking over a stalled implementation, which we scope honestly by auditing the data and the process design before quoting. Every engagement ships a documented month-end close, a cutover runbook and a reconciliation pack the controller signs.

Industry Expertise

ERP Development for Edmonton's Key Industries

Process manufacturing and petrochemicals across the Heartland need batch genealogy, yield accounting, plant maintenance integration and emissions data that stands up to third-party verification. Oilfield service, fabrication and modular construction in Nisku and Acheson need field ticketing, shop routing, heat number traceability, rental fleet utilization and progress billing against milestones rather than invoices against shipments. Construction and engineering, the sector Stantec and PCL define locally, need percentage-of-completion revenue, joint venture accounting, holdback tracking under Alberta's Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act, and integration between ERP and project controls tools such as Procore. Food and agri-processing need lot traceability and recall simulation that satisfies the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's Safe Food for Canadians Regulations. Licensed cannabis producers need seed-to-sale inventory reconciled to Health Canada reporting, with destruction events and excise stamps tracked as inventory transactions. Utilities and independent power producers need work management, capital versus operating cost separation and settlement data. Distribution and logistics through Port Alberta and Edmonton International Airport need customs, landed cost and northern freight planning built into the order flow.

Our Process

Our ERP Development Development Process

We do not configure anything until the close is understood. The first phase maps how the month actually closes today, where the manual spreadsheets sit, which reconciliations fail and how long each takes, because that is the honest measure of whether the new system worked. That work is done on site. Our head office is in Edmonton, so we can sit in your Fort Saskatchewan or Nisku plant with the controller, the production supervisor and the maintenance planner rather than interviewing them separately over video. Master data comes next, and it is usually the reason projects slip: item masters with duplicate part numbers, customers with three spellings, bills of material that stopped matching the shop floor years ago. We clean it in a staging environment with the business owning the decisions. Configuration and extension run in two-week sprints, each closing with a working demo the controller and a line supervisor both attend. Conference room pilots run against real transaction volume, not sample data. Cutover is rehearsed at least twice, including a full trial balance reconciliation, and go-live is scheduled against your fiscal calendar rather than ours. Hypercare covers a full close cycle before handover.

Technology

Technologies We Use for ERP Development

Platform selection follows manufacturing mode, entity structure and who administers the system afterward. SAP S/4HANA fits process manufacturers with complex batch and regulatory requirements and the staff to run it. Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP suits large multi-entity organizations with heavy consolidation needs. Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations fits discrete and mixed-mode manufacturers already inside the Microsoft estate, and Business Central covers the mid-market below it. NetSuite and Acumatica suit distribution and project-based services. Epicor remains strong in fabrication and metals. Hosting is decided before the shortlist rather than after it, because a residency clause discovered late can eliminate a product you have already selected: the workable Canadian footprints are AWS in Calgary or Montreal, Azure in Toronto or Quebec City, and Google Cloud in Montreal, and not every ERP vendor offers every one of them. Integration runs on Azure Integration Services, MuleSoft, Boomi or a plain event bus on Kafka depending on scale. Plant connectivity goes through OPC UA gateways and historians such as AVEVA PI, always read-only into ERP. Reporting sits in Power BI or Snowflake rather than inside the ERP. Remote sites north of Edmonton get store-and-forward sync because satellite and LTE links drop.

Why Choose Us

Why Edmonton Businesses Choose Codazz for ERP Development

We combine world-class engineering with local market understanding to deliver erp development solutions that drive real business outcomes.

🏭

Heartland And Nisku Fluency

Batch genealogy, heat number traceability, field ticketing, rental fleet utilization and progress billing are the modules this corridor actually needs. We design them against how a Fort Saskatchewan plant or an Acheson shop really runs, because we can be standing in it the same morning.

🧾

Alberta Tax Reality, Not The Simple Version

No provincial sales tax in Alberta, then a full matrix the moment you ship out: BC and Manitoba PST at 7 percent, Saskatchewan at 6, Quebec QST at 9.975, Ontario HST at 13, Nova Scotia at 14 since April 2025 and the rest of Atlantic Canada at 15. We configure place-of-supply rules and registration thresholds, plus CBSA CARM on the import side.

🌫️

TIER Reporting As Audited Data

Facilities over 100,000 tonnes CO2e file verified compliance reports by June 30 with mandatory third-party verification. We capture fuel, flare, feedstock and production as controlled transactions so a verifier traces every number to a source document instead of a workbook.

📶

Offline-First For Northern Sites

Field ticketing, inventory consumption, hours and signatures work with no signal, with conflict rules agreed in writing rather than left to defaults. Plant integrations buffer locally so an outage delays a posting instead of losing it, and month end reports exactly what has not yet landed.

Frequently Asked Questions About ERP Development in Edmonton

Have a question not listed here? Reach out to our team and we will get back to you within 4 hours.

Ask a Question

Alberta is the only province with no provincial sales tax, so an Alberta-only business charges 5 percent GST and nothing else, and new controllers reasonably assume that is the whole story. It stops being true the moment you ship or perform services outside the province. British Columbia applies 7 percent PST on top of GST, Saskatchewan 6 percent, Manitoba 7 percent, Quebec applies QST at 9.975 percent alongside GST, and the harmonized provinces charge a single rate that is not uniform: Ontario 13 percent, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island 15 percent, and Nova Scotia 14 percent since its reduction from 15 percent on April 1, 2025. A tax table configured before that change and never revisited is quietly wrong on every Nova Scotia invoice. Place-of-supply rules decide which applies, and for services and intangibles those rules turn on the customer's address rather than yours, which packaged ERP tax engines get wrong when the address data is dirty. We configure the tax matrix against your actual shipping and service footprint, set up registration tracking so you know when a threshold obliges you to register in another province, and handle input tax credit recovery correctly on the purchase side. For businesses that import, tax and duty configuration also has to reflect CBSA's CARM system, which became the system of record for importer accounting in 2024 and changed how duties, GST on imports and financial security are administered.

Quoted in Canadian dollars, fixed fee where scope permits and time and materials only for genuinely open-ended discovery. Extension and integration work against an ERP you already run, such as building a field ticketing module, a TIER emissions data collector, a lot genealogy extension or an integration to a historian and a maintenance system, typically runs CAD 80,000 to 225,000. A mid-market implementation on Business Central, NetSuite, Acumatica or Epicor for a single-entity manufacturer or distributor, including process design, data cleanup, configuration, integrations, migration and hypercare through a full close, typically runs CAD 250,000 to 800,000. A multi-entity, multi-plant program on S/4HANA, Oracle Fusion or Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations with consolidation, intercompany, project accounting and plant integration runs CAD 800,000 to 2,500,000 and up, and anyone quoting a fixed number for that before the process design is guessing. Licences and infrastructure are separate and we model five years, not year one, because the maintenance line is where ERP total cost actually lives. Alberta's general corporate income tax rate of 8 percent is the lowest in Canada, and custom development with real technical uncertainty may qualify for federal SR&ED and Alberta's Innovation Employment Grant of up to 20 percent of qualifying expenditures.

It can produce most of it, and doing so is far better than the spreadsheet chain most facilities still use. Alberta's Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction regulation is the province's industrial carbon pricing and emissions trading system. It captures facilities that emitted 100,000 tonnes or more of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2016 or any subsequent year, or that import more than 10,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually, and smaller facilities emitting at least 2,000 tonnes may opt in where they compete with regulated facilities in emissions-intensive sectors. Regulated facilities file verified annual compliance reports by June 30 of the following year, third-party verification is mandatory, and facilities above one million tonnes also file forecasting reports. Compliance options include on-site reductions, emission offset credits, emission performance credits, payment into the TIER Fund, and since the 2025 amendments direct investment in emissions reduction technology at the facility. The ERP work is to capture fuel, feedstock, flare, purchased electricity and production volume as auditable transactions with the same controls as financial data, so the verifier traces a number back to a source document rather than to a workbook. We build the collection, the reconciliation and the audit trail; your consultant still does the quantification methodology.

Canadian publicly accountable enterprises report under IFRS as adopted in Canada, which covers TSX-listed companies in this region. Private companies almost always use Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises, which is materially simpler and changes how revenue, leases and financial instruments are handled in configuration. Choosing the wrong one at design time is expensive to undo because it reaches the chart of accounts, revenue recognition rules and the consolidation model. On controls, Canada does not have Sarbanes-Oxley. The equivalent is National Instrument 52-109, the Canadian Securities Administrators rule requiring CEO and CFO certification of disclosure controls and internal control over financial reporting, with a lighter regime for venture issuers than for non-venture issuers. Practically that means the same discipline in ERP terms: documented segregation of duties, restricted access to master data and journal entry, approval workflows with evidence, change management on configuration, and audit trails that cannot be edited. We build the control matrix during design rather than retrofitting it before the first audit, and we map each control to the system feature that enforces it so your external auditor tests a configuration rather than a policy document.

It changes the architecture rather than the configuration. Cloud ERP assumes a connection, and camps, remote pads and northern service jobs do not have one reliably. We design the field layer as an offline-first application with a local store, deterministic conflict resolution and a queue that survives a device restart, so a crew can record a field ticket, consume inventory, capture signatures and log hours with no signal, and the records sync when the truck reaches coverage. The rules that decide conflicts are business decisions, not technical defaults, so we agree them in writing: last-write-wins is acceptable for a comment field and unacceptable for an inventory quantity. Documents and drawings are cached selectively by job rather than wholesale. Where a facility has a satellite link, we shape sync traffic so a large master data refresh does not saturate it during a shift. On the plant side we keep the integration read-only into ERP through an OPC UA gateway or historian replica, buffered locally so an outage delays a posting instead of losing it. The reconciliation report at month end tells the controller exactly which field transactions have not yet landed.

Because ERP is the one system where the requirements live on a shop floor and not in a document. Our head office is in Edmonton, so we sit in the plant in Fort Saskatchewan, the shop in Acheson or the yard in Nisku, watch the process, and find the workaround nobody mentioned in the workshop. Conference room pilots, cutover rehearsals and go-live weekends are attended in person, which is when it matters most. Training happens on site with the people who will use the system, in shifts, including night shift. There is no time zone gap with your finance team, so a question raised during close is answered the same hour rather than the next morning. Our Chandigarh colleagues work the far side of the clock, about twelve hours off Edmonton in either season, and on ERP that offset earns its keep: full-volume test loads, conversion runs and integration regression suites are measured in hours, so they execute while Edmonton sleeps and the results are on the controller's desk at the start of the next business day rather than at the end of it. Codazz has been in business since 2018, with 500 or more projects delivered and a team of more than 200 engineers split between Edmonton and Chandigarh. Call +1 (403) 604-8692.
