Service Overview

Branding & Creative Solutions for Abu Dhabi Businesses

A brand built for Abu Dhabi has to work in two scripts that were drawn by different hands for different reasons, and most brands that arrive here fail that test. An Arabic wordmark is not a translation of a Latin one and it is not the Latin logotype run through an Arabic font. It is a redraw, and the decision of which calligraphic tradition it references, whether it leans Kufic and geometric, Naskh and readable, Thuluth and ceremonial, or Diwani and ornamental, says as much about the brand as the colour palette does. Get it wrong and the Arabic mark looks like a caption under a foreign logo, which is exactly how a lot of international brands read to Arabic-first audiences in this city. Abu Dhabi also has an unusually mature set of local brand reference points that raise the bar: the Department of Culture and Tourism's Experience Abu Dhabi identity, Aldar, Etihad Airways, First Abu Dhabi Bank, ADNOC, Masdar, EDGE Group, e& and the Hub71 startup cohort inside Abu Dhabi Global Market. Buyers here have seen good bilingual identity work and they notice when they are not getting it. Codazz builds brand and creative systems for Abu Dhabi companies, government-related entities and startups from Edmonton, Canada and Chandigarh, India. We have no Abu Dhabi office and we say so directly, because the honest version of remote brand work is that the strategy, naming validation and cultural review need local input we source deliberately rather than assume. Our Chandigarh team runs 1.5 hours ahead of Gulf Standard Time, which means brand reviews and stakeholder sessions happen inside your working day rather than a day later. Founded 2018, 500-plus projects delivered, 200-plus engineers.

What We Build

Branding & Creative Services We Offer in Abu Dhabi

Our Abu Dhabi brand work runs across four areas. Brand strategy and positioning covers the audience and category work, the narrative, and, critically for this market, the bilingual message architecture, because a proposition that is sharp in English and limp in Arabic is a half-finished brand. Naming and verbal identity covers name generation tested in both scripts, phonetic checks against Arabic and the major expatriate languages spoken here, trade name availability against the register your entity will use, and domain and handle availability including the .ae namespace. Visual identity covers the dual logotype system, the Arabic and Latin type pairing, colour, imagery direction and iconography, delivered as a system with mirrored layout rules rather than as a logo file. Applications and creative production covers everything the system has to survive: signage in two scripts at different optical sizes, retail and environmental graphics, packaging, presentation and document templates that work in both directions, social and campaign assets, and a digital brand layer with tokens that hand off cleanly to a product team rather than sitting in a PDF nobody opens.

Industry Expertise

Branding & Creative for Abu Dhabi's Key Industries

Real estate and hospitality is the busiest brand category in Abu Dhabi. Developers and destination operators launch sub-brands per community and per asset, and each one needs a bilingual identity that sits under a master brand without diluting it, plus environmental and signage systems where Arabic and Latin have to be optically balanced at very different sizes. Financial services covers conventional and Islamic institutions where the Islamic brand cannot borrow conventional banking visual language uncritically, and where Sharia supervisory approval touches product naming. Energy and industry, including the ADNOC ecosystem and EDGE Group suppliers, needs identity systems that survive on plant equipment, PPE and vehicle liveries rather than only on screen. Government and government-related entities need identity that aligns with emirate-level visual standards and with the Abu Dhabi government service ecosystem. Startups from the Hub71 cohort need a name that clears the ADGM Registration Authority and the Ministry of Economy trademark register, a bilingual identity that will not need replacing at Series A, and a system light enough that a five-person team can run it without a brand manager.

Our Process

Our Branding & Creative Development Process

We start with an entity and name check, because in this market the name has to be approvable before it can be beautiful. A mainland Abu Dhabi company registers its trade name with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, an Abu Dhabi Global Market entity registers with the ADGM Registration Authority, and each has its own naming rules that rule out religious terms, government-suggestive terms, and names considered contrary to public order. We check that before design work begins, and we check trademark availability with the UAE Ministry of Economy register in both the Latin and Arabic forms, because Arabic and Latin versions of a mark are filed and examined as separate registrations and a clear Latin search tells you nothing about the Arabic. Then we run strategy and naming, followed by identity design in both scripts in parallel, never Latin first with Arabic added after sign-off. Identity reviews are run live rather than sent as a flattened PDF, because a bilingual logotype is judged on optical decisions that a deck hides, and Chandigarh's 1.5 hour offset from Gulf Standard Time makes a same-day second round normal rather than exceptional. Cultural review with native Arabic speakers from the Gulf specifically, not general Arabic speakers, happens before external presentation.

Technologies We Use for Branding & Creative

Identity is designed in Illustrator and Figma, with the Arabic logotype drawn as outlines rather than set in a licensed retail font, because a wordmark that is really a font specimen creates a licensing exposure and cannot be optically corrected. Type systems pair a Latin family with an Arabic family that was actually designed to sit with it, and licence terms are confirmed in writing before sign-off, including web, application, broadcast and desktop seats, since Arabic font licensing is more variable and more frequently misunderstood than Latin licensing. The digital brand layer is delivered as Figma variables split into primitives and semantic tokens, exported through a Style Dictionary pipeline so that the brand and the product implementation stay in sync. Document, presentation and template systems are built in the tools the client actually uses, meaning Microsoft Office and Google Workspace templates with working right-to-left variants, because this is where most bilingual identity systems silently collapse in daily use. Motion and campaign assets are produced in After Effects with dual-script versions rather than a single master retimed. Digital asset management is delivered on the client's existing platform or on Brandfolder or Bynder where none exists.

Why Choose Us

Why Abu Dhabi Businesses Choose Codazz for Branding & Creative

We combine world-class engineering with local market understanding to deliver branding & creative solutions that drive real business outcomes.

✍️

Arabic Wordmarks Drawn, Not Typed

The Arabic logotype is drawn as outlines with manual correction to joins, baseline, dots and diacritics, and the calligraphic reference is chosen as a positioning decision. Kufic, Naskh, Thuluth and Diwani carry different meaning, and defaulting to an installed font makes that choice by accident.

📋

Name Cleared Before It Is Designed

Trade name checked against the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development or the ADGM Registration Authority rules, and trademark availability searched with the UAE Ministry of Economy in both Latin and Arabic forms, because they are filed as separate marks and a clean Latin search proves nothing about the Arabic.

🌡️

Built For Physical Abu Dhabi

Bilingual signage specified with an optical size relationship and a vertical alignment rule rather than a shared point size, palettes chosen for ultraviolet exposure and graceful fading, low-contrast exterior type avoided because of dust, and marks tested small for vehicle liveries and industrial protective equipment.

🧭

Gulf Cultural Review Before Presentation

Naming and creative pass review with Gulf-native Arabic speakers, not general Arabic speakers, before anything reaches you or the market. Content standards, Ramadan tone, regulated-category approvals and imagery constraints go into the brief as design parameters rather than emerging as late rework.

Ask a Question

We scope by deliverable set rather than quoting a single number. A brand strategy and positioning engagement, including bilingual message architecture and a competitive and category review of the Abu Dhabi market, typically runs AED 60,000 to 150,000. Naming, including generation, bilingual phonetic and semantic screening, trade name availability against the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development or ADGM Registration Authority register, preliminary trademark search in both Latin and Arabic classes, and domain and handle checks, typically runs AED 45,000 to 120,000. A full bilingual visual identity, meaning a dual logotype system with a drawn Arabic wordmark, type system with licensing confirmed, colour, imagery direction, iconography and a written guidelines system with mirrored layout rules, typically runs AED 130,000 to 450,000. A complete brand programme with applications across signage, environmental, packaging, document templates, digital tokens and campaign assets typically runs AED 450,000 to 1,500,000 depending on application count. Delivering from Chandigarh and Edmonton keeps us well below the London and New York network agencies that Abu Dhabi corporates commonly appoint, and below the regional offices of those networks, without cutting the Arabic craft, which is where cheap bilingual work always shows.

Three reasons, and all of them show up in the finished work. First, licensing. Most Arabic retail fonts are licensed for setting text, and using a font's outlines as a permanent trademark is a different and often prohibited use, so a wordmark that is really a font specimen creates an exposure that surfaces at exactly the wrong moment, which is usually during trademark registration or an acquisition. Second, optics. Arabic is a connected script where letterforms change shape by position, and the joins, the baseline, the ascender and descender rhythm and the placement of dots and diacritics all need manual correction at logotype scale. A font renders those to a general-purpose average, not to your specific letter sequence. Third, meaning. The calligraphic tradition the mark references carries connotation. Kufic reads as architectural, modern and geometric. Naskh reads as clear and institutional. Thuluth reads as ceremonial and traditional. Diwani reads as ornate and official. Choosing one is a positioning decision, and defaulting to whatever font was installed makes that decision by accident. We draw the Arabic wordmark as outlines and pair it with a licensed Arabic text family for everything else.

There are two separate things and people conflate them. A trade name is the commercial name of your legal entity and is registered with the licensing authority for your jurisdiction: the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development for a mainland Abu Dhabi company, or the ADGM Registration Authority for an entity incorporated in Abu Dhabi Global Market. Each has naming rules, and the ones that most often kill a shortlist are prohibitions on religious terms, on names suggesting a connection to government, and on names considered contrary to public order or morals. A trademark is a separate federal registration filed with the UAE Ministry of Economy, examined per class, and published for opposition. The practical point for a bilingual brand is that the Latin form and the Arabic form are treated as distinct marks and need to be filed and cleared separately. A clean search on the Latin name tells you nothing about whether the Arabic form conflicts with an existing registration, and the Arabic form is the one that matters most for local recognition. We run availability on both before design, not after, and we advise clients to take formal legal advice from a UAE trademark agent for the filings themselves.

Advertising and published content in the UAE sits under national media content standards, and enforcement is real rather than theoretical, so the sensible posture is to design within the constraints rather than to test them. In practice the recurring issues are depictions of alcohol and pork, dress and modesty in imagery, religious symbols and religious language used commercially, gambling references, comparative advertising that names competitors, and health, cosmetic and financial claims that require substantiation or a sector approval. Ramadan changes tone expectations across the whole market for a month, and campaign calendars need to account for that rather than pausing awkwardly. Colour and symbol connotation differs too, and assumptions carried from a Western brand book do not transfer cleanly. Our approach is to build the constraints into the creative brief as design parameters at the start, run a cultural review with Gulf-native Arabic speakers rather than general Arabic speakers before anything goes to the client or to market, and keep a documented rationale for judgement calls. Where a campaign touches a regulated category such as health, financial products or real estate, we assume a sector approval step in the timeline.

By designing for the physical conditions rather than for a presentation deck. Abu Dhabi signage is almost always bilingual, and the two scripts do not share an optical size, so a specification that says both languages at the same point size produces Arabic that reads too small or Latin that reads too large. We specify an optical size relationship and a vertical alignment rule per application rather than a single number. Sun and heat matter: colours that survive a Northern European climate fade differently under this level of ultraviolet exposure, so we specify substrates and finishes with that in mind and prefer palettes that degrade gracefully. Sand and dust affect the readability of low-contrast type on exterior surfaces and the maintenance interval for illuminated signage. Wayfinding needs a language order rule applied consistently across an entire estate, because inconsistency between buildings is what users actually notice. Vehicle liveries and PPE for industrial clients need a mark that holds at very small sizes and under distortion. We deliver signage as a specification with tolerances and a production drawing set, not as an artwork file and a hope.

It affects it more than it affects an engineering project, so we are direct about how we handle it. Codazz works from Edmonton, Canada and Chandigarh, India. Strategy, design craft, production and system building all travel well remotely, and our Chandigarh team's 1.5 hour offset from Gulf Standard Time means reviews and stakeholder sessions happen inside your working day rather than a day later, with Edmonton joining late-afternoon Abu Dhabi sessions at Edmonton breakfast. What does not travel is local cultural judgement and local market context, so we buy that rather than pretend to it. Naming and creative go through review with Gulf-native Arabic speakers before they reach you. Category and competitive research is grounded in the Abu Dhabi market specifically rather than in generic Gulf material, because Abu Dhabi and Dubai are different markets with different institutional buyers. Where a project needs on-site work, such as environmental brand audits, signage surveys, photography or production supervision, we scope local production partners into the project explicitly and show the cost rather than absorbing it into a day rate and quietly skipping the visit.
